AKAR exhibition NOW!

showing off now! AKARbatik streetwear exhibition at Potluck coffeeshop and library bandung! For you who doesnt know where, it is located near to law and economy faculty of UNPAD dipati ukur. Just ask around, people around should knows it.

the exhibition itself is still far from perfect, we left one of the mannequin in jakarta and the banner and all.. but the batik is already there for you to see! (and buy ) haha!
it was sort of crazy, even when we were setting it up, 2 people came to us and buy it already.
and just to let you know, we are only showcasing 26 batik, and 15 minutes after i left there is only 24 left. so i guess you guys should be there soon. i have a feeling these batik will be gone soon!

and as i mentioned earlier, AKARbatik items are all custom made. so there will be only 1 stock for each item. so there is no freakin' way you would run into someone with the same dresses or shirt. but that also mean that the item will be limited, custom made specially for you. and many people are asking me about the pricing. well, i am SURE you will be surprised how affordable they was! really!

oh yeah i will be there in tuesday with my camera, so watch out! maybe your photo will make it to this website..!

AKAR showcasing at bandung soon

remember last week when i said there will be an AKAR showcase at bandung?
if everything goes well the showcase will start in 10th May at Potluck coffeeshop and library.
i'l keep you updated about the showcase again soon. just make sure you'll be there, and for all my friends who doesnt's show up that day, i will be really pissed! hahaha!

The last one in this shoot is… Shafa! She’s the little sister of smita and marsha, and studied at Al-Azhar Pusat elementary with her sister marsha. And wow, take a look at those killer shot! haha i guess modeling DOES runs in her family,
just don't you dare to ask for my sisters numbers you sly beast. haha!

oh and by the way, AKAR will open a showcase in the next few weeks at bandung, we're still trying to fix the place, so stay tuned and check back at this blog for more info.. remember, love the culture.. and the style!

its the designer herself

Now, here comes the designer! She is my sister Puteri, she designed many of AKAR’s dresses and shirt. She’s currently working at TRANS corp as a stylist and wardrobe and handled quite a lot of shows there (gossip mostly, haha!) She’s gonna be the director of our next photoshoot. Cant wait to see that!

Next its my little sister Smita, when I took this photos she looked so natural i actually think she will be a top model someday. She’s still in junior high school at labsky though. What a girl!

Damn, I screwed up on the last editing on marsha’s post. Sorry folks, still haven’t got used to this. In this post you can see Della and Citta with their batik, Della is the one holding the flowers and currently studying at UPH and Citta is in Undip, so I don’t see them much throughout the year. Nice to see them in batik though!

its kinda incidental so i dont even bring my camera. but.. anyway, i think they still look great!

Brief History of Batik

Batik (pronounced: [ˈba.teʔ], but often, in English, is [ˈbæ.tɪk] or [bəˈtiːk]) is a wak-resist dying technique used on textile. However, it is in Indonesia that it is considered a national art form.

Batik has been both an art and a craft for centuries. In Java, Indonesia, batik is part of an ancient tradition, and some of the finest batik cloth in the world is still made there.

Contemporary batik, while owing much to the past, is markedly different from the more traditional and formal styles. For example, the artist may use etching, discharge dyeing, stencils, different tools for waxing and dyeing, wax recipes with different resist values and work with silk, cotton, wool, leather, paper or even wood and ceramics.

Batik is historically the most expressive and subtle of the resist methods. The ever widening range of techniques available offers the artist the opportunity to explore a unique process in a flexible and exciting way..

for you guys who haven't know what batik is, batik is one of the oldest art in indonesia, even asia. The sad thing is people nowadays seems to ignore batik and think batik is too uptight or.. too lame.. practically we never saw anyone hanging out at saturday night wearing batik nowadays..
